Recently, the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China announced the decision to commend the advanced organizing units and outstanding works for the 17th "Five Ones Project" of spiritual civilization construction, awarding a total of 105 works the "Outstanding Works Award." Among them, the TV series "The Road of Life," submitted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, was successfully included in the "Outstanding Works Award" for TV series.
"The Road of Life" is full of "Yulin elements", with more than half of its scenes filmed in Qingjian, the hometown of writer Lu Yao, and with many local residents included in the cast of extras, and also with the filming finally concluded here. Additionally, the filming was also conducted in places like Jingbian Wave Valley. As co-production units, the Publicity Department of the CPC Yulin Municipal Committee, the CPC Qingjian County Committee and the Qingjian County Government also organized academic seminars for this TV series in Qingjian and Beijing successively.
This TV series is directed by Yan Jiansheng and stars Chen Xiao and Li Qin, for which Associate Professor Hong Jinghui from the Department of Dramatic Literature, Shanghai Theatre Academy serves as the head screenwriter. Some of the plot is adapted from Lu Yao's novella "Life", and it primarily tells the story of Gao Jialin, a young man from Gaojia Village in northern Shaanxi, who strives to change his fate. Through the vicissitudes of life and the tests of destiny, he writes an extraordinary story of an ordinary person in the tide of the times.
Since its premiere on CCTV-1's prime time slot and iQIYI on 20 March 2023, until its conclusion on April 11 of the same year, the ratings, online broadcast popularity and discussions among netizens for "The Road of Life" have steadily increased, making it a nationally popular TV series. According to data from the National Radio and Television Administration, this TV series maintained its position as the top-rated TV series in the prime time slot across all channels for two consecutive weeks, setting the highest record for CCTV-1 in over a year. On 8 April of the same year, before its first-round broadcast had ended, CCTV-8 began its second-round broadcast. Subsequently, Guangdong Satellite TV, Henan Satellite TV, Hebei Satellite TV, Sichuan Satellite TV, and Shaanxi Satellite TV also started broadcasting this TV series in their prime time slots.
It is reported that the "Five Ones Project" is an initiative of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee to select and commend outstanding works in the construction of spiritual civilization. The current "Five Ones Project" mainly selects and commends outstanding works that were first broadcast, performed, published or exhibited between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2024. The 105 awarded works were meticulously selected from 1,068 works submitted by participating units through rigorous review procedures.
