On 20 June 2024, the Third International Film Education Professional Chain Development Summit Forum, organized by the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival and the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Film, was held at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Constructing the Discourse System of the “Shanghai Film School” was the theme of this forum. The event took place at the Changlin Campus of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and attracted over 20 experts and scholars from related fields both domestically and internationally.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wan Chuanfa from the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Film. Professor Nie Wei, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Film Critics Association and Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, delivered the opening speech. Ren Zhonglun, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, former Vice Chairman of the China Film Association and former Chairman of the Shanghai Film Association, emphasized that Shanghai cinema is a core expression of Shanghai culture. Professor Li Zhenlin, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Literary Critics Association and Dean of the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Fill, provided a detailed description of the evolution of the Shanghai Film School and introduced 30 representative films and 30 representative filmmakers of the Shanghai Film School. The three leaders collectively stressed that the Shanghai Film School is not merely a regional or local academic establishment, but aims to build a cultural highland and an important window for Chinese culture, thus creating a cultural brand with international influence.
The thematic forum was chaired by Professor Huang Wangli, head of the Production Department at the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Film. During the keynote speech session, experts and scholars from home and abroad delivered insightful speeches, with those unable to attend in person participating via online video.
The second thematic forum was chaired by Tan Zheng, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Film Art." Subsequently, several experts and scholars from China, Japan and the United States delivered keynote speeches.
The keynote speeches provided an extremely lively interpretation and exposition on the topics of the conference, respectively focusing on the language and narrative system of the Shanghai Film School, how the Shanghai Film School constructs future higher education in film studies, and other related issues. Finally, Professor Huang Wangli, the head of the Production Department at the Shanghai Theatre Academy's College of Film, delivered a concluding speech.
