The 23rd "Shanghai Social Science Popularization Week," organized by the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, recently commenced.

As a significant event of this year's Popularization Week, the College of Chinese Opera at the Shanghai Theatre Academy introduced the "Lotus Blossoms with Chinese Opera Performances, Praising Youth with Chinese Opera Performances" project, offering two performances to the public at the Lianhua Road campus.

The two performances were:

- Students from the Chinese Opera Performance major and the Chinese Opera Music major presented "Liu Jinding Fights at Four Gates", "The Pavilion of Pure Breeze: Waiting for My Son", "Sitting in the Palace" and "The Battle of Jizhou." These included both civil and martial plays, with students delivering precise singing and acting, graceful expressions, stable stage presence, and accurate interpretations.

- Students from the Chinese Opera Performance major and the Chinese Opera Music major also presented "You Sanjie: The Drunken Feast" and "The Orphan of Zhao". These are two classic plays of Chinese opera that have been performed on stage for many years, featuring a complete range of roles and a variety of styles. Every classic aria touched the hearts of the audience.

Many citizens who came to observe expressed their delight at being able to see the performances at the STA College of Chinese Opera. After the two performances, the audience eagerly took photos with the students, encouraging them to use their exquisite artistry to promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Shanghai is a major centre for philosophy and social sciences. This year's Popularization Week is themed "Showcasing New Achievements in Social Sciences, Building the Best Practice Area." The opera popularization activities open to the public by the Shanghai Theatre Academy are a concrete action to deeply study and implement the important speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection visit to Shanghai, practice Xi Jinping's cultural thoughts, and actively create a demonstration university for the "Best Practice Area of Xi Jinping's Cultural Thoughts." Standing at the forefront of culture, Shanghai must always resonate with the international cultural metropolis amid the changes of the times, and unwaveringly promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture. The Shanghai Theatre Academy shoulders the responsibility of spreading, exchanging and popularizing Chinese opera art. We look forward to the continued success of Chinese opera education as "Lotus Blossoms with Chinese Opera" implies.
