The production team formation meeting for the original play "Classmates in Youth," a key creation and performance project for 2024 by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, was recently held.

"Classmates in Youth" has received two grants from the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation and is co-produced by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Huangpu Cultural Tourism Group.

The play is based on the true story of several students from Bile High School in Shanghai who enlisted in the Chinese People's Volunteer Army on the same day. It focuses on the young volunteers who went to fight in Korea, highlighting their tempering and growth amidst blood and fire. Through flexible handling of time and space, the play captures the essence of the era, drawing on red culture, Shanghai-style culture and Southern Yangtze culture to refine elements of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. It aims to pay tribute to the great War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea with a blend of rationality and poetry.

The play is adapted from a piece of documentary literature by Li Jing, an alumna of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. She noted that the characters in the play are closely connected to the Shanghai Theatre Academy, making it particularly meaningful for the alma mater's team to bring it to the stage. Qian Jue, the playwright of the play, emphasized that the script highlights themes of "home" and "emotion", showcasing the patriotism and resilient spirit of the soldiers who participated in the war. Ma Junfeng, the director of the play, stated that the courage and passion of the young characters in the play are moving, and that this is a story with a distinct Shanghai flavor, reflecting the spirit of the city.

Nie Wei, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, expressed gratitude for the strong support from various functional departments and encouraged the production team to approach the project with youthful enthusiasm. He urged them to refine this work, which is rich in elements of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and bring it from the campus to a broader stage, presenting it to a wide audience as a stage masterpiece with contemporary significance.

Zhuang Weiqin, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Shanghai Huangpu Cultural Tourism Group Co Ltd, also conveyed his enthusiastic expectations to the production team.

Li Yanan, Project Manager of the Review Office of the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, as well as the relevant personnel from the production team, attended the meeting.
