On May 21, 2024, Jorge Luis Cacheiro, Dean of the School of Drama at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Tony Wang, Associate Dean of the School of Drama, visited the Shanghai Theatre Academy. They were warmly received by our President Huang Changyong, Vice President Nie Wei, Director of the International Exchange Centre Zhang Yunlei, and Director of the Acting Department Xiao Ying.
This was Mr Jorge Luis Cacheiro's first visit to Shanghai. President Huang Changyong extended a warm welcome to the guests on behalf of our university and provided an introduction of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Mr Jorge Luis Cacheiro also introduced the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as well as his personal background and philosophy of teaching and management. He has many years of leadership experience in reimagining performing arts training at higher education level, and in connecting students with the industry, and he is the founder of the College of Performing Arts at Pace University.
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Shanghai Theatre Academy have had many years of cooperation. Both parties expressed their willingness to further expand the areas of collaboration, including student programs, faculty exchanges and academic conferences. Vice President Nie Wei expressed great appreciation for Mr Jorge Luis Cacheiro's philosophy, and also expressed his commitment to actively supporting the collaboration between STA and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, including efforts to diversify forms of cooperation and explore research and collaboration on the integration of artificial intelligence and the arts.
