"Spark" - 2024 Undergraduate Graduation Works Showcase Successfully Held

Recently, the "Spark" - 2024 Undergraduate Graduation Works Showcase was held at Screening Room 2, Block A, Building No. 5, Changlin Road Campus, Shanghai Theatre Academy. The event was attended by Li Zhenlin, Dean of the College of Film, Han Yongsheng, Party Secretary of the College of Film, Dong Jian, Vice Dean of the College of Film, as well as faculty and students.

Before the screening began, Dean Li Zhenlin introduced the university's film projection team to the guests and announced the official establishment of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Film Production Team.

The showcase featured two works: "Caesar's Summer" and "Dinosaur Egg Boy". "Caesar's Summer" is an outstanding graduation work by students from the 2020 class of the Broadcasting and Television Directing program, while "Dinosaur Boy" is a selected masterpiece from the 2020 class of the Film and Television Photography and Production program.

The first film shown was "Caesar's Summer". The work provided the audience with a visually exotic experience and received enthusiastic responses. "Caesar's Summer" was filmed in Xinjiang, with support from some local film workers. Two crew members from Xinjiang also attended the screening. After the screening, the creators shared stories related to the work, leaving a deep impression on the audience and sparking discussions. The director, Rufina Aierken, a native of Xinjiang, hopes to bring more attention to her hometown. During the creation process, Rufina combined her thoughts and feelings, and after emotional stirring and brewing, inspiration emerged. After the creators' speeches, the crew also performed a Xinjiang dance for the audience, enlivening the atmosphere.

The second film, "The Dinosaur Egg Incident," also received enthusiastic responses from the audience. After the screening, the creative team shared their reflections and processes of creation, and engaged in discussions with the audience. Director Liu Zhiquan shared his experiences of working with some well-known actors.

After the screenings, Party Secretary Han Yongsheng summarized the event. He stated that both works are masterpieces, emphasizing that masterpieces come from initial inspiration, repeated refinement, relentless effort, and confident attitudes. He encouraged students to learn from these two works, and meticulously revise the early-stage screenplays and allow ample time for post-production polishing in their own creation. He said that the university will provide excellent faculty, abundant equipment and strong resources.
