Acting Department Travels to Russia to Participate in International Student Graduation Performance Drama Festival

At the invitation of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), the Acting Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy traveled to Russia this April to participate in the International Student Graduation Performance Drama Festival hosted by GITIS.


The Shanghai Theatre Academy's Acting Department performed "Deling and Cixi" in a condensed version of over 40 minutes, delivering a remarkable performance to the audience. The students' precise and skillful acting showcased the high standards of the academy's training, earning unanimous praise from the Russian audience and high acclaim from other participating delegations.

Liu Yang, the representative from the Cultural Section of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, attended the performance and warmly interacted with the teachers and students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy afterward, congratulating them on the successful performance. Russian National Television and Russia International Channel also conducted exclusive interviews about the performance and provided detailed coverage in the media.

During their time in Russia, the teachers and students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy also participated in a series of master workshops organized by the host, including "Theatre Movement and Dance", "Meyerhold's Organic Technique", and "Tartakovsky's Breathing Method and Dynamic Breathing Techniques", among others.

Yi Jie, the leader of the Shanghai Theatre Academy delegation, engaged in discussions with the president, vice president cum chairman of the drama festival, and the director of the Special Affairs Office of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts. Both parties expressed a sincere desire to deepen cooperation in all aspects.


Since 2023, the Shanghai Theatre Academy has seen visits to Russia from its Directing Department, Traditional Chinese Opera College and Acting Department. This visit by the Acting Department has advanced the educational collaboration between the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, and has also provided the Russian arts education community with a deeper understanding of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Chinese theatre education as a whole.

In an interview with the National Television and the International Channel, the president of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts stated, "The visit of the delegation from the Shanghai Theatre Academy holds significant importance. We also plan to visit the Shanghai Theatre Academy to jointly realize collaborative projects."
