Recently, the 10th China Alliance of Higher Theatre Educational Institutions Exchange Activity cum the 4th Student Theatre Showcase was held at the Changping Campus of the Central Academy of Drama. Twenty-five teachers and students from Shanghai Theatre Academy, led by Party Secretary Xie Wei, participated in the event and won several awards.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the China Association for the Promotion of Art Education, as well as leaders of the Alliance's member institutions, and more than 300 guests and student representatives from 47 member institutions across the country.
The academic forum of the event was entitled "Ten Years in the New Era - Building a Disciplinary System, Academic System and Discourse System for Higher Theatre Education in China", and in-depth discussions were held. Professor Xiao Ying, Dean of Acting Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy, acted as one of the academic moderators of the sub-forum on "Nationalization of Chinese Theatre and Chinese Adaptation of Stanislavski System", and delivered an academic presentation on "Research on Innovation and Development of Actors Training in the New Era". Associate Professor Li Shitao, Deputy Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, delivered an academic presentation on "Concept, Thought and Method: Reflections on Cultivating Playwriting Talents in the Context of New Liberal Arts" at the sub-forum on "Theatre Curriculum Reform and Teaching Practices in the Context of New Liberal Arts". Associate Professor Zhang Wenying of the Department of Directing delivered an academic presentation entitled "Exploration and Practice of Literary Modernity in Chinese Drama Art from the Theoretical Perspective of Chinese-style Modernization" at the sub-forum on "Chinese-style Modernization and the Modernity of Chinese Drama and Chinese Traditional Opera". Professor Hu Zuo, Dean of the Department of Stage Design, participated in the "Present and Future - Theme Forum on Chinese Stage Design Education" and shared his academic insights.
The theme of this year's Student Theatre Showcase was "Building a Magnificent Chapter Together", and students from the Acting Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy presented their paly "Deling and Cixi", which stood out from many other plays and was the grand finale of the Showcase. The play was widely praised by the audience for its artistic and ideological merits.
Pan Yuetong and Zhou Jingyi, students of the Acting Department, were awarded Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role respectively. Additionally, the Shanghai Theatre Academy was recognized with the Outstanding Organization Award.
The event not only highlighted the significant achievements of the Alliance's member institutions in talent cultivation, academic research, artistic creation and social services, but also vividly conveyed the original aspiration of China's higher art education, and contributed towards the aesthetic education in the new era and on the new journey.
