On the 15th of September, the eight-day military training for 2023 first-year students of Shanghai Theatre Academy was successfully completed. The closing ceremony was held at the campsite of Oriental Land on the eve of the National Defence Education Day.

Xie Wei, Party Secretary of Shanghai Theatre Academy, first inspected the military training companies of first-year students.

Afterwards, 13 parade formations marched past the podium to be inspected. In the follow-on military training results showcase, students from different faculties and majors showed their skills and techniques.

The most touching part of the camp closing ceremony was the farewell for Yu Dingsheng, a graduate of the College of Dance, and Sun Jiawei, a graduate of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera, who were recruited into the army this year. Song Runda, the representative of ex-soldiers from Shanghai Theatre Academy, solemnly put on the red flowers for the two new soldiers. The two new soldiers wearing the red flower went up to the podium and received the certificates of enlistment from the university leaders, signifying the start of their brand-new military career.

Zhou Yin'e, Shanghai Theatre Academy’s Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, and the heads of the relevant functional offices read out the lists of outstanding teachers and instructors, outstanding companies and outstanding trainees to be commended for the military training.

On behalf of the university, Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of Shanghai Theatre Academy, spoke and expressed his gratitude to all the officers and soldiers who had provided the military training, as well as the teachers who had been at the forefront of military training. Yang Xin, Party Secretary and Director of Shanghai Teenagers Extra-curricular Activities Campsite - Oriental Land, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. Pan Haoqing, a 2023 student from the Department of Acting, spoke on behalf of the trainees.

In this year's military training, a total of more than 50 counsellors, class teachers, and teachers from the Student Work Office, the Youth League Committee and the Logistic and Security Office stationed in the camp, who not only accompanied the new students to successfully complete the military training, but also witnessed the students' growth during this period.

In the short but fulfilling eight days of military training, the Student Work Office and the Youth League Committee carefully designed a wonderful program of "ideological and political" courses which combined education with pleasure and was content-rich, covering student education and teaching management, national defense and security education, university life planning, campus culture and other contents concerning new student orientation and school-based programs. At the same time, the members of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Debate Association, who won the 13th Shanghai University Students' Debate Competition on International Humanitarian Issues, were invited to make an exhibition competition at the campsite, demonstrating the energetic and healthy and upbeat activities of student clubs. The military training for new students, which sharpened their minds, built up their physical fitness and cultivated their character, pushed the start button for the students of Class of 2023 to begin their university life.

The heads of all relevant functional offices, colleges and departments of the university attended the closing ceremony of the military training. Li Dongmei, Director of the Student Affairs Office and the Armed Forces Department of the university’s Party Committee, presided over the closing ceremony.
