Shanghai Theatre Academy launched the "Secondary Unit Achievements Exhibition" in March this year. Following the previously held exhibitions of the Dramatic Literature Department and the Affiliated Dance School, the Directing Department Achievements Exhibition opened in the Duanjun Theater on 15 June.
This exhibition comprehensively showcases the achievements of the Directing Department in such aspects as subject and major construction, talent cultivation, creation and performance, international exchange etc.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony, the undergraduates of the Directing Department collectively recited the earnest instruction of Xiong Foxi, the late former president of STA.
Lu Ang, head of the Directing Department, introduced the operational direction, development process and teaching philosophy of the Directing Department. Yin Yuerong, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Directing Department, introduced the planning and preparation process of this exhibition.
This exhibition is divided into five major sections: leading high-quality development of subject and major, promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning, creating excellent literary and artistic works, promoting international cultural dissemination, and cultivating artistic talents.
Xie Wei, Party Secretary of Shanghai Theatre Academy, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, fully recognizing the Directing Department's efforts to elevate subject construction, educational level, and creation and performance to new heights under the new historical conditions, and encouraging the Directing Department to continue actively promoting the construction of the system of directing and performance school with Chinese characteristics.
After visiting the exhibition, Professor Zhang Zhongnian, former vice president of Shanghai Theatre Academy, who personally experienced the development process of the Directing Department, said that the good news came at today's opening ceremony that STA’s theatre, film and television directing major had received the A+ rating again in Shanghai Ranking after 2021 and 2022, and ranked first nationally, was really encouraging and indicated that the future of the Directing would be more brilliant.
On the same day, it happened that Yu Qiuyu, former president of STA, came back to give a lecture. The content of the exhibition made him feel very close to his heart and delighted with the achievements of the Directing Department.
During this exhibition, visitors can also watch the "A Drama A Day" at noon every day. These works showcase the achievements of the Directing Department’s in producing excellent literary and artistic works, featuring ten representative teaching works originally created and performed by the Directing Department since entering into the new century, as well as ten classic plays of Shakespeare directed by Professor Nicholas Barter, former director of the Royal Academy of Drama, UK.
Leaders of STA, heads of various functional offices and secondary colleges and departments, as well as representatives of teachers and students, attended the opening event of this exhibition.
