On 15 June 2023, the Duanjun Theater of Shanghai Theatre Academy was fully seated. Yu Qiuyu, a well-known cultural scholar, returned to his alma mater where he had studied and worked, and had an in-depth face-to-face talk with Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, on the theme of "New Cultural Mission in the New Era".
As always, Yu Qiuyu spoke in a lively manner, responding to the questions of the times such as "building cultural confidence", "inheriting and developing Chinese culture" and so on.
Yu Qiuyu's talk closely centred on the following four core themes: Safeguarding the dignity of Chinese culture is the conscience of scholars; The way to seek evidence for cultural confidence is through the farthest travel; The core of inheriting and developing traditional culture is creation and repeat creation; It is crucial to defend the basic style of life: great enlightenment, great love, and great beauty.
Xie Wei said in his concluding speech that while the whole university is deeply studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on cultural inheritance and development, Yu Qiuyu's lively sharing on "reading and traveling" and "communication and innovation" is of great significance to teachers and students.
It is hoped that every STAer can enhance their sense of mission and responsibility in the historical process of inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture, promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture, and building the modern civilization of the Chinese nation, thus demonstrating the achievements made by STA and showcasing the style of STA.
