Not long ago, with the recommendation of the Shanghai Theatre Association, the drama “Dong Qichang”, co-written by Professor Lu Jun, Chairman of the Academic Committee, Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Professor Liu Yanhui (pen name: Xiao Liu) of the Shanghai Theatre Academy won the Cao Yu Drama Award at the 9th China Theater Awards .
The drama “Dong Qichang”, jointly produced by the Songjiang District People's Government and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, is one of the series of dramas featuring historical celebrities of Songjiang. Writings are for conveying truth, while plays are for conveying emotions. The drama "Dong Qichang" brings the story of Dong Qichang, a great master of painting, to the stage for the first time, and explores the spiritual mysteries and artistic feelings of historical celebrities from the perspective of the times.
The Caoyu Script Award is the highest professional award for drama at the national level approved by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and jointly administrated by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Theatre Association. It is also a national level award specifically established for playwrights in the field of Chinese drama. It selects five winners every two years are, and is known as one of the “Four Major Literary Awards” together with the Lao She Literature Award, the Lu Xun Literature Award and the Mao Dun Literature Award being the other three.
In 2021, the drama “Dong Qichang” won the First Prize for Script at the 35th Tianhan Theatre Awards. Winning the Cao Yu Script Award this time is undoubtedly a high recognition of its dramatic literature value. This is also a great motivation for the teachers and students of the Department of Dramatic Literature at STA. The entire department will use this as a driving force, adhere to the pursuit of art, enhance artistic cultivation, and maintain and carry forward the glory of the Department of Dramatic Literature.
