The graduation showcase of BA Broadcasting and Hosting Art 2019, titled "Universe of Language", was successfully held at the Duanjun Theater on the Huashan Road Campus on 23 and 24 May at 7 pm. Leaders and guests including Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Li Zhenlin, Dean of the STA College of Film, Han Yongsheng, Party Secretary of the STA College of Film, and Wang Chunyun, Deputy Party Secretary of the STA College of Film, Xiao Ying, Dean of the STA Department of Acting, Gao Xiangrong, Dean of the Broadcasting and Hosting Department of the Shanghai Normal University, and Liu Feng, Director of the Shanghai Dubbing Studio, attended the performance.
"Universe of Language" is set in the background of the era of artificial intelligence (AI). It depicts the entire process of a student who does not understand the importance of traditional basic skills exercises and uses human-machine dialogue to find the history and explore the future of his major transitioning from a lack of interest in his major and a lack of proper learning attitude to becoming conscientious and hard-working. In the whole play, various parts of the showcase are connected through dialogue between AI and students. The performance of “Universe of Language” embodies the charm of language in the fusion of ancient and modern times, the integration of human and machine and the fusion of history and future. Through this showcase performance, 24 graduating students who are about to enter the field of communication and media takes the audience to find the "authentic" aspects of history and the "new" aspects of the future, focusing on showcasing the theme of "innovation and tradition flying together, and culture and the times blending in one color”.
After the performance, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Professor Li Zhenlin, Dean of the STA College of Film Academy, and Han Yongsheng, Party Secretary of the STA College of Film, delivered speeches congratulating the students on their successful performance and sending them the best wishes for their future. Professor Gao Xiangrong, Dean of the Department of Broadcasting and Hosting Art at the Shanghai Normal University, as a representative of guests, and Liu Feng, Director of the Shanghai Dubbing Studio, as an outstanding alumnus, also sent blessings to the students.
