STA delegation visits Beijing and Henan for learning and research

Recently, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Liu Qing, Vice President of STA, led a delegation comprising of the heads of functional offices, colleges and departments, including the Party Committee’s Office cum President’s Office, Planning Office, Academic Affairs Office, Admissions Office, Personnel Office, Infrastructure Office, Department of Acting, College of Dance and College of Traditional Chinese Opera, to visit such organizations as the Ministry of Education, Beijing Dance Academy, National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Beijing People's Art Theatre and National Theatre of China, as well as Lankao County in Henan Province, for learning and research.


The delegation made special trips to the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and the National Theatre of China, both of which had received Secretary-General Xi Jinping’s personal reply letters of encouragement, where the delegation toured the history galleries of the two organizations, observe classroom teaching and performances, and conduct exchange discussions.

On the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the demise of Comrade Jiao Yulu, the delegation also travelled to Lankao County, Henan Province where he had worked before, to visit the Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall, observe the original play "Lankao" jointly produced by STA and Lankao County, and explore new ways and means for art universities to tell Chinese stories even better.

After arriving in Beijing, the delegation immediately went in groups to the Department of Graduate Students, the Department of Students, the Department of International Cooperation and the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, and reported in detail on such work as the construction of professional degree programs at doctoral level, undergraduate enrollment and Sino-foreign cooperative education programs.


On the basis of preliminary research conducted on major issues in the development of the university, the delegation took the opportunity of this trip to visit the relevant functional offices and some colleges and departments such as the admissions office, academic affairs office and graduate schools of art universities in Beijing. Through roundtable discussions and individual talks, the delegation conducted fact-finding and consultation on such hot and difficult issues as the enrollment work, talent cultivation and faculty construction, as well as major issues related to the long-term development of the university, aiming to identify practical solutions and achieve concrete results through the research.


In regard to the upcoming theatre renovation work, the delegation not only visited all the theatres of the organizations on the itinerary, but also made time to conduct on-site inspections at theatres under the Beijing Film Academy and the Central Academy of Drama, so as to explore ideas for building a leading and exemplary modern theatre.


In recent years, the Party Committee of Shanghai Theatre Academy has always regarded the strategic cooperation and co-construction with top theatres and troupes as an important platform and an important measure to implement the talent cultivation goals and achieve high-quality development. On the basis of pre-existed good cooperative relationships, the delegation went in succession to the Beijing People’s Art Theatre and the National Theatre of China where exchange meetings were held with leaders and renowned artists of the two entities, including Tian Qinxin, Feng Yuanzheng and Pu Cunxin.

At the Capital Theater, STA signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Beijing People's Art Theatre. Not long ago, STA and the National Theatre of China signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai. The first visit after the signing of the agreement would effectively promote the implementation of various collaborations between the two sides and produce tangible results.
