Under the guidance of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee for Education and Health Work and the Shanghai Municipal Education Committee, the original musical drama "Counselors" produced by the Shanghai Theatre Academy premiered at the STA Experimental Theatre from f26 to 28 May. Representatives of teachers and students from universities across Shanghai watched the performance.
This play is the first stage play in China that focuses on the spiritual style of the counselors in higher education institutions. It is a youth-style dramatic work that pays tribute to the ideological and political workers in higher education institutions.
The original musical drama "Counselors" has always been highly valued by all parties since the beginning of its creation. The Shanghai Student Moral Education Development Centre organized and coordinated various higher education institutions to provide strong support for the play. The Shanghai Theatre Academy carefully formed the main creative team for it, with Professor Lu Jun serving as the artistic director, Professor Yi Tianfu as the director, and Associate Professor Li Shitao as the playwright. The team conducted in-depth research and invited ideological and political experts from various institutions to hold discussions, interviewed bearers of the title of Shanghai Higher Education Institution Counselors of the Year and continuously enriched and optimized the script, striving to tell the campus stores in the new era and shape the youthful images in the new era.
The actors in "Counselors" are mainly teachers and students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, as well as some full-time counselors. Yang Jia, who serves as the executive director and leading actor of the play, is a professional teacher and head teacher at the Department of Acting (inclusive of the Musical Centre).
The original musical drama "Counselors" is an important achievement of the "Drama + Ideological and Political Education" cultural education model under the 2023 Ministry of Education Outstanding Ideological and Political Work Projects, and also a featured project of the "Drama + Ideological and Political Education" counselor studio at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. It is reported that the play will go for a performance tour, so as to allow more people to experience the spirit of counselors and understand the mission and responsibilities of this career.
