From 22 to 29 April 2023, the 13th Beijing International Film Festival was grandly held, in which two students from our university’s College of Film won awards and achieved remarkable results.
1. Beijing International Film Festival • ReelFocus Program
On 27 April, the "New Blood Ceremony" of the Beijing International Film Festival • ReelFocus Program was held at the Thousand People Theater on the Huairou Campus of the Beijing Film Academy. The project "Dinosaur Egg Incident" from Liu Zhiquan, a Year 2020 undergraduate student of film and television photography and production, was selected for the filming project list of the year. Professor Wan Chuanfa from our university’s College of Film was the script supervisor of this film. It was reported that each selected work would receive a certain amount of filming fund (with a total funding support of approximately RMB 2 million) for film production, and the finally completed films would be screened for media and industry audience in the follow-up activities of the Beijing International Film Festival.
For this year’s RealFocus Program, Wanma Caidan, a famous film director, screenwriter and writer, was the chair of the jury, and Hou Yong, Ke Wenli, Li Meng, Wang Chuanjun, Zhou Bing, Xu Tong and Gu Tao were the judges. In addition, famous film practitioners such as Chen Jiashang, Zhao Wenzhuo, Zhou Dongyu, Da Peng and Wang Zhi, as well as leaders and scholars from the China Film Association and the China Film Script Institute, also attended the ceremony and presented the awards to the award winners.
2. Beijing International Film Festival • College Student Film Festival
On 28 April, the award ceremony and screening event of the Beijing International Film Festival • College Student Film Festival were held at the Northern Theater of Beijing Normal University. MA "Mom is Suffering from Depression", the work of Yuan Huadan, a Year 2019 student of Master of Arts in Film History Studies, won directed by Professor Wan Chuanfa, won the Best Script Award. Professor Wan Chuanfa was the supervisor of this film.
The Youth Excellent Script Selection is an important unit of the College Student Film Festival, which has been successfully held for eight times, with widespread attention and high praise from the film and television industry and university teachers and students. In the future, the Youth Excellent Script Selection will continue to discover new film talents and support the cultivation of talented young script writers.
Going forward, the College of Film will continue to work in alignment with the goals, objectives and strategies that have been identified for the further development of Shanghai Theatre Academy to establish a scientific and systematic talent training system and strive to cultivate film and television talents with international competitiveness.
