On 23 April, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theater Academy (STA), gave a lecture entitled "Clarifying the Direction, Planning the Layout and Opening up New Chapters in the Vertical and Horizontal Coordinates of Chinese-style Modernization and the Mission of Higher Education Institutions" for at the topical party class on thematic education of studying and implementing "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era", which was attended by STA cadres with CPC membership. Relevant members of the No.19 Circuit Guiding Group for Thematic Education of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee attended as observers.
Xie Wei first reviewed the historical achievements made in China's cultural development since entering the new era and the important achievements made by STA in the “14th Five Year Plan” period, clarifying the foundation and direction of the development of STA’s undertakings under the background of building a culturally strong socialist country. Then, starting from the important conclusion that "Chinese-style modernization is the modernization of material civilization and spiritual civilization in harmony", he pointed out that the distinctive characteristics of Chinese-style modernization fundamentally determines that the development of China's literary and artistic cause must meet the requirements of Chinese-style of modernization. On the basis of the important mission of higher education institutions, STA should gradually clarify the future development direction, key layout and basic tasks of the university in the vertical and horizontal coordinates of Chinese-style modernization and the mission of higher education institutions, strengthen cultural self-confidence and self-development, cultivate excellent artistic talents, strive to create literary and artistic works, and actively promote the international cultural communication.
Xie Wei called on cadres with CPC membership of the entire university to comprehensively and thoroughly study and implement “Xi Jinping Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” with the determination and goal of taking action, ensuring implementation and achieving results, enhance the organic integration and integrated promotion of theme education and high-quality development of the university, and open up a new chapter of STA in the vertical and horizontal coordinates of Chinese-style modernization and the mission of higher education institutions.
