Advanced Training Course for Theatre Operation and Management Talents commences in Beijing

On 10 April, the Advanced Training Course for Theater Operation and Management Talents, sponsored by the China National Arts Fund, organized by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and undertaken by the China Theatre Development Research Centre, opened at the Taihu Stage Design Art Centre of the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Leaders from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China National Arts Fund Management Centre, as well as 30 students from all over the country, participated in the opening session of the training course. This advanced training course aims to enhance the operational and management level of theatres in China, as well as the professional abilities of performing arts practitioners, so as to meet the requirements of industry development and the growth needs of practitioners in the new era.


Wang Ning, Party Secretary and President of the National Centre of the Performing Arts, Huang Changyong, Deputy Secretary and President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Director of the China Theatre Development Research Centre, and Wang Mingliang, Director of the China National Arts Fund Management Centre, addressed the opening session. Zhang Yilin, General Manager of the China National Symphony Orchestra Beijing Concert Hall, made a speech as the representative of the students.

This advanced training course invited about 60 industry elites, including leaders from relevant departments of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, theatre operation and management experts, performance management experts and theatre production experts, to give lectures. The course is comprised of eight modules including theatre management, theatre culture, performance operation management, theatre production, stage technologies, resident troupes in theatres, theatre director’s responsibilities and audience cultivation, totaling about 100 classes, which are substantive, comprehensive, well-knit and practical.

The 30 selected students are from theatres, troupes, art universities and colleges, and other cultural organizations across the country. On the basis of studying the general education course on theatre, students will combine their own work practices into the topical learning of the course, so as to achieve theory-practice integrated training outcomes.


This advanced training course has also received strong support from the Department of Policies and Regulations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Jiangsu Grand Theatre and the Xinyi Cultural Development Co Ltd. The training course will include a 30-day centralized delivery, which will be conducted in two stages in Beijing and Shanghai. In addition to the centralized teaching, it will also include various other elements such as site visits, research, observation and discussions. The training course is scheduled to conclude in Shanghai on 22 May.
