On the afternoon of 13 December 2022, the Department of Directing of the Shanghai Theatre Academy held the "Teaching Seminar on the Contemporary Production and Performance of Classical Plays and the Directors and Actors Training in the Context of New Liberal Arts cum Teaching Seminar on the Creation and Performance of the BA Directing 2019 Graduation Production ‘Peer Gynt’” in the Smart Classroom of the Huashan Road Campus Library.
The seminar focused on the discussion of "contemporary production and performance of classical plays in the context of new liberal arts", and summarized the experience of directors and actors training and put forward the direction and goals of future development on the basis of the creation, rehearsal and performance of the BA Directing 2019 graduation production "Peer Gynt”, and injected new vitality into the construction of the national first-class undergraduate specialty.
Professor Huang Changyong, President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Professor Yang Yang, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Professor Lu Ang, Dean of the Department of Directing, Yin Yuerong, Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Department of Directing, Associate Professor Shi Jun, Deputy Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Department of Directing, heads of the relevant functional offices, and the main creative team of "Peer Gynt" participated in the seminar in person, while more than 100 experts, teachers, students and cast members attended the seminar online. Professor Lu Ang, Dean of the Department of Directing, and Associate Professor Zhang Wenying, Head of the Theoretical Teaching and Research Unit of the Department of Directing, presided over the seminar.
The seminar was not only a summary and review of teaching and practice, but also provided guidance for the future development of creation, performance and teaching in the Department of Directing. After the seminar, the attending students said that from the seminar, they had not only absorbed rich experience in art practice, but also learnt valuable knowledge in academic research, and also gained new ideas to look at problems from the perspective of teaching.
