On 1 December of this year, the day that marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the launch ceremony of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Experimental Film Studio was held at the Changlin Road Campus.
Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President of Shanghai Theatre Academy, delivered a speech at the launch ceremony. The establishment of an experimental film studio is an important measure taken by STA in response to the adjustment of the art disciplines. It is the third creative organization that is "set up at the university level and managed by the college or department concerned" after the Youth Dance Troupe and the Youth Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera Troupe, and will play an important role in promoting STA's film and television creation. The experimental film studio should continue to promote the "works-products-classics" model for the incubation of student works, strengthen the construction of the industry-education integrated platform, so as to produce talents and works, and become an experimental film studio of excellence.
Li Zhenlin, Dean of the College of Film of Shanghai Theater Academy, said that compared with the Beijing Film Academy Youth Film Studio that has a history of 44 years, the Shanghai Theater Academy Experimental Film Studio is still a newborn baby. The main tasks of the experimental film studio include: the creation of graduation works and mid-term works of undergraduate students and postgraduate students; jointly creation and production with film companies to incubate some of the mid-term works and graduation works into long films (including cinema films, online films, documentaries and other types of films); establishment of an industry-education cooperation platform with film companies in the society capitalizing on the laboratory spaces in Building 5, Changlin Road Campus (including the filming studios, broadcasting studios and recording studios etc) and to explore a new talent training model.
Guests attending the launch ceremony included Ren Zhonglun, Vice Chairman of the China Film Association, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Chairman of the Shanghai Film Association; Xu Pengle, Former Vice President of the Shanghai Film Group and Former Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Film Association; Zhang Wenrong, the widow of Mr Wu Yigong, the famous film artist; Zhao Yun, Resident Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Film Association; Jan Schutte, Professor of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Former President of the American Film Academy, and Professor of the Harvard University; Kees Van Oostrum, Professor of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and President of the International Cinematographers Association.
Shanghai Theatre Academy Experimental Film Studio is the second film studio established by domestic higher educational institutions after the Beijing Film Academy Youth Film Studio. Its goal is to build itself into a domestically first-class and internationally famous base for film education, practice, creation and production, and become an incubation center for talents and works.
