From 26 to 27 November 2022, the large-scale international academic seminar on the theme of  "Bounded and Unbounded: Technological Revolution, Image Language and Common Imagination", sponsored by the Film Culture Research Center of Shanghai Theatre Academy, “Contemporary Film” magazine, Shanghai Film, Television and Theatre Theories Research Association, and co-sponsored by the Shanghai Film Association, the Film, Television and Media Committee of China Higher Education Association, and the Shanghai Film Criticism Society, was successfully held at the Changlin Road Campus of Shanghai Theatre Academy. The seminar was held in an online and offline-combined mode, with the Shanghai-based scholars participating onsite and the scholars outside of Shanghai participating online simultaneously. More than 120 experts and scholars from more than 60 universities and cultural institutions at home and abroad participated in this wonderful academic event.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wan Chuanfa of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Hu Min, Deputy Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Sun Xianghui, Director of the China Film Art Research Centre and Curator of the China Film Archive, Li Zhenlin, Dean of the College of Film of Shanghai Theatre Academy, Zhao Yun, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Film Association, and Zhu Feng, President of the Shanghai Film Criticism Association addressed the opening ceremony.

The keynote speech session was divided into two units. The first unit was presided over by Professor Wan Chuanfa of Shanghai Theatre Academy. A number of professors put forward many new concepts and propositions from different perspectives, such as film history, film theory, film criticism, film technology, film creation and film aesthetics. The second unit was presided over by Zhang Wenyan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the “Contemporary Film” magazine. A number of professors and film directors put forward their innovative thinking and discussions at the academic and creation levels from the perspectives of film technology, "Metaverse", film media, film text and image, and raised many farsighted views.

The seminar lasted for two day, and had altogether units of meetings. The participating experts and scholars engaged in further and in-depth discussions from the perspectives of "Metaverse", the rethinking of film ontology, the language and aesthetics of film digital technology, the future of film narrative and film language, the film media and culture studies, film technology and performance studies, new research and new direction of film history, future image studies, and film technology and imagination studies etc.
