High-end Forum on "New Era, New Trends and New Changes: Teaching Reform and Development of Playwriting Major" is successfully held in Shanghai

On 29 October 2022, co-hosted by the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Steering Committee for Theatre, Film and Television Majors in High Learning Institutions and the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and jointly organized by STA’s Department of Dramatic Literature and Playwriting Research Centre, the High-end Forum on the Construction of Dramatic, Film and Television Literature Major was successfully held in Shanghai. With the theme of "New Era, New Trends and New Changes", the forum focused on the construction and teaching reform of the playwriting major, and 17 experts and scholars from universities across the country talked about dramatic literature in an online and offline combined mode.

Professor Liu Qing, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, presided over the opening ceremony of the forum. On behalf of the hosts, Professor Huang Changyong, President of Shanghai Theatre Academy, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Steering Committee for Theatre, Film and Television Majors for its strong support for the forum, and also expressed his sincere welcome to the experts participating in the forum. Professor Zhou Xing from the Beijing Normal University, in his capacity as Director of the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Steering Committee for Theatre, Film and Television Majors, gave his best wishes to the forum in his opening speech. After the opening ceremony, Professor Chen Jun, Dean of STA’s Department of Dramatic Literature, gave a special report.

The forum was divided into a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning session was presided over by Professor Chen Jun, Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, and the afternoon session was presided over by Professor Xu Yu, Vice Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, and Associate Professor Li Shitao, Head of the Playwriting Major, Department of Dramatic Literature.

Nine experts participated in the topical discussion. They were: Professor Zhou Xing from the Beijing Normal University who is Director of the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Steering Committee for Theatre, Film and Television Majors; Professor Hu Zhifeng, Vice President of the Beijing Film Academy; Professor Li Zhenlin, Dean of the College of Film, Shanghai Theatre Academy; Ran Changjian, Vice Dean of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts; Professor Zhang Yan from the Beijing Normal University who is Secretary-General of the Teaching Steering Committee for Theatre, Film and Television Majors; Professor Peng Wanrong, Dean of the Department of Arts, Wuhan University; Professor Shen Yizhen, Dean of the College of Humanities, Nanjing University of the Arts; Professor Lu Shuangyan, Shandong University of Arts; Professor Yang Jun, Dean of the College of Dramatic Arts, Yunnan Arts University.


The afternoon session was divided into two parts, i.e. topical discussion and academic dialogue. Experts participated in and spoke at the afternoon session included Professor Yang Junlei from the Fudan University; Professor Cheng Bo, Deputy Dean of the Shanghai Film Academy, Shanghai University; Professor Peng Tao, Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Central Academy of Drama; Professor Huang Dan, Dean of the Literature Department, Beijing Film Academy; Professor Li Shengli, Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Communication University of China; Professor Yan Quanyi, Dean of the Department of Dramatic Literature, National Academy of Chinese Theatre Ars; Professor Gao Ziwen, Deputy Dean of the College of Humanities, Nanjing University.


After the topical discussion, Professor Lu Jun, Chairman of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Professor Wu Weimin, former president of the Yunnan Arts University, held an academic dialogue about the path of improving playwriting teachers’ abilities to teach research, create and serve the society. Professor Lu Jun shared his personal experience on how playwriting teachers could improve their own abilities.

Towards the end of the forum, Zhang Jing, Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Shanghai Theatre Academy, presided over the academic wrap-up and the closing ceremony. Professor Lu Jun made a wonderful academic wrap-up. At the end of the forum, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, delivered a closing speech.

The High-end Forum on the Construction of Theatre, Film and Television Literature Major entitled "New Era, New Trends, New Changes: Teaching Reform and Development of Playwriting Major" was successfully concluded in the warm applauses online and offline. The Department of Dramatic Literature, Shanghai Theatre Academy will earnestly study and digest the academic achievements, experience and wisdom of this forum, and incorporate them into the construction of the playwriting major, so as to promote the development and improvement of the construction of the playwriting discipline in China.
