On the morning of 14 October, the Seminar on Full-length Film Incubation Program of Shanghai Theatre Academy was successfully held at the Changlin Road Campus. The meeting was chaired by Wu Aili, director of the Development Planning Office. Huang Changyong, president of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), Han Yongsheng, secretary of the General Party Branch of the STA College of Film, Li Zhenlin, dean of the STA College of Film, Jan Schutt, professor of the STA College of Film, former director of the American Film Institute and director of DFFB, Kees Van Oostrom, professor of the STA College of Film Academy and president of the International Society of Cinematographers, Qian Jianping, former director of the Creation Planning Department and director of the Shanghai Animation Film Studio of Shanghai Film Groupy, Wu Tiange, film director of the Shanghai Film Group, and teachers of the STA College of Film attended the meeting.

First of all, Wu Aili and Li Zhenlin introduced the plan of establishing and development the Youth Film and Television Production Centre of Shanghai Theatre Academy and the full-length film incubation program to the attendees. Wu Aili raised that Shanghai Theatre Academy should also focus on promoting the talent cultivation so as to improve the “soft strength” while improving the "hard strength" such as the professional equipment for recording and editing etc. In this regard, the long film incubation program, which aims to incubate students’ high-quality graduation short films into full-length films, is of far-reaching significance. Li Zhenlin introduced the plan of establishing and developing the Youth Film and Television Production Centre of Shanghai Theatre Academy in detail, emphasizing that the full-length film incubation program will focus on the aesthetic breakthrough of students' creation, and will leverage the market with artistic reputation. Huang Changyong, president of STA, affirmed the overall implementation plan, and pointed out that the aim of the full-length film incubation program is to expand the creative and teaching modes and cultivate high-level film talents, and that the strong faculty team of the College of Film and the in-depth cooperation with the Shanghai Film Group will provide a strong assurance for the long film incubation program. The Youth Film and Television Production Centre will take the full-length film incubation program as the starting point, and will gradually expand to the innovation and incubation of different types, modes and tracks such as cinema chain feature films and documentaries etc.

The participants watched and discussed two outstanding student works, discussed the incubation potential of students and their works, and discussed several problems in the process of incubating full-length films and the solutions. Wu Tiange, who is in charge of the selection and incubation of works, encouraged the students to continue to create, and to adhere to their film dreams.

Wu Aili summarized the meeting and made an outlook on the future. She proposed that the Youth Film and Television Production Centre of Shanghai Theatre Academy should focus the follow-up work on and around the incubation of students’ short films into full-length films, and cinema chain feature films as well as the talent training camps etc.
