The “Seminar on the Integration and Development of Chinese Traditional Opera in the Contemporary Actors Training for Theatre, Film and Television” will be held on 23 October 2022 at the Huashan Road Campus of Shanghai Theatre Academy.

In the 1950s, Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) was the first institution of higher learning in the country to offer Chinese traditional opera training in the acting major, which subtly combined the ways of expression of Chinese traditional opera with the acting methods of realism, so that students could not only systematically master the acting creation methods of realism, but also absorb the artistic spirit and aesthetic concepts formed in the long-term practice of Chinese traditional opera, and creatively apply them in acting creation, thus greatly enhancing their acting skills and enriching their techniques of expression. In order to further sum up the experience and explore the deep integration of the art of Chinese traditional opera and the actors training and education for theatre, film and television, this seminar focuses on master dramatist Fang Chuanyun’s actors training for Chinese traditional opera, and the integration and development of Chinese traditional opera in the contemporary actors training for theatre, film and television, tries to refine the teaching results of actors training for Chinese traditional opera, discusses how to establish a systematic and effective actors training course for Chinese traditional opera that meets the needs of the development of the times, and makes efforts to establish a future-oriented actors training system for theatre, film and television with Chinese characteristics and STA features.

Sponsored by Shanghai Theatre Academy and organized by its Acting Department and International Performing Arts Research Centre, this seminar cordially invite experts on Chinese traditional opera studies, experts on actors training and education for theatre, film and television, and researchers of performance theories from all over the country to carry out academic discussions in an online and offline combined mode, so as to look back together and plan for common development. Your participation is warmly welcomed.
