On the evening of 30 November, the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s cultural and artistic performance gala in celebration of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up in China and the 73rd anniversary of its own founding was held at the Shanghai Theatre Academy Experimental Theatre.
The performance gala was based on the theme of “all the way along the whole journey” and was divided into five chapters. The rich and colorful program of performances began with the original classical dance drama "Yellow River" created by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, which was followed by selected sections of classical dramas, dance performances, selected sections of famous Peking Opera works and students' reporting performances. The performance gala concluded with the original dance "Red" created by the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
The performance gala eulogized the great achievements of 40 years of reform and opening up in China, as well as the fruitful achievements in teaching, research, creation and performance that had been accomplished by several generations of people in and from the Shanghai Theatre Academy who had adhered the original inspiration to nurture people with art and upheld the ideal for artistic innovation in the great era of reform and opening up.
It showed the vigorous spirit of all those at the Shanghai Theatre Academy who are, under the leadership of the Party Committee of the school, putting their hearts and efforts together to forge ahead, strive for excellence through opening up, promote development through reform, and strive to speed up the development of the school into a domestically leading and internationally first-class art university in China.
In the long and extraordinary course of development, the Shanghai Theatre Academy has always kept pace with the future and destiny of the country, with the development and progress of the times, and with the fundamental needs of the people. The Shanghai Theatre Academy has rooted art education in the dynamic real life. It has unswervingly adhered to “art serving the people” as its purpose of running the school, and has established the fine tradition of school operation and administration which has become the soul of its operation throughout the past 73 years.
