On 27 September, the "China Novel Forum and Most Influential Novel Award Ceremony on the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up" and the "9th Maotai Cup Selected Novels Annual Award Ceremony" were jointly held at the Qingdao Grand Theatre. All students of the Acting Program 2018 of the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Continuing Education were invited to take part in the performance of the award ceremony.
In the performance that evening, our students had the privilege to recite his poem "Song of Youth" with Mr Wang Meng, the former Minister of Culture and a famous contemporary writer, which set off a small climax of the award ceremony. Then, the students performed the selected episodes of three plays adapted from novels that had been published in Selected Novels. The students’ wonderful performances were widely recognized and praised.
This trip to give performances in Qingdao has benefited the students a lot, not only providing them with the opportunity to practice, but also bringing them even closer to the novels thus becoming more deeply enlightened by the novels through performing the dramatic illustration of the novels. This was a collision and exploration between novel and theatre, and it was also an exploration of our College of Continuing Education in undergraduate performance teaching of tertiary degree continuing education. The recognition and affirmation of this exchange performance also indicates that the cooperation between the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Chinese Writers Association will have more possibilities in the future.
