On the morning of 10 September, the Shanghai Theatre Academy Opening Ceremony for the 2018-2019 Academic Year was held in the STA Experimental Theatre.
Before the ceremony began, the retired teachers of STA struck the bell from the old Hengbang Bridge campus. In the meantime, four teachers walked onto the stage and told all the new students about the history of STA with a silver voice and deep feeling, delivering the community spirit of STA.

The ceremony officially began in the solemn national anthem. The STA leaders put on the university badges for the representatives of the new students. Representatives of newly enrolled undergraduate students, postgraduate students and international students, as well as representatives of teachers and alumni, came to the stage one after another to speak.

It is worth mentioning that STA also specifically invited 83-year-old film performance artist, Mr Niu Ben to this year’s opening ceremony. Mr Niu Ben joined the Communist Party of China on 6 June this year, and received a congratulatory letter from General Secretary Xi Jinping. He encouraged all students present to cherish time and be dedicated, and encouraged them to become outstanding cultural and artistic workers in the future and make contributions to the development of culture and art in the new era.

On behalf of STA, Huang Changyong, President of STA, extended the welcome to all new students, and also wished all staff and teachers a happy Teacher's Day. President Huang introduced the history of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and emphasized the importance of undergraduate education. He said that the STA would do its utmost to provide the stage for students to display their talents and the space for their innovation and creation. He hoped that the students would cherish the time and strive for perfection.

At the end of the ceremony, the university flag handover ceremony was carried out. In the inspiring university anthem, Lou Wei, Chairman of STA, passed the university flag from the hands of the representative of the current students to the hands of the representative of the new students. All new students of Year 2018 rose to swear solemnly to the university flag, showing the artistic character of the STAers and their feeling towards the nation.
