The university student short film program, jointly established by the Shanghai Theater Academy (STA) and the Zhejiang Talent Television and Film Co Ltd (Talent Television and Film), will be launched soon in this summer. This program, which is based in Shanghai and calls for short films created by university students all over China, aims to discover promising film and television talents and high-quality works, build an interactive bridge between specialized higher education and film and television industry, and forge the new-generation creative force for Chinese films.
In the context of the "50-article guidelines for Shanghai’s cultural and creative industries”, STA joins hands with Talent Television and Film to hold this cultural and creative program aiming to encourage young people in the new era to express themselves and pay attention to the society in the form of short films, and to record, transfer and share creativities and ideas in the new era under the concept of innovation and creation. The selected works of the program will be for poster promotion and joint screening at the various colleges and schools of STA, and will be shown on internet platforms. The outstanding works will also be sent jointly by STA and Talent Television and Film to participate in the major film festivals and short film festivals at home and abroad.
STA is an important output platform for Chinese film and television talents. STA Microfilm has been successfully held for the six years and become an iconic annual event of STA. Talent Television and Film is an important output platform for outstanding Chinese film and television works. In recent years, it has produced and invested in quite a number of popular film and television works which are widely praised in the industry.
This program, which takes STA Microfilm as the basis, is a strong collaboration between a specialized art university and a film and television magnate. The participation of Talent Television and Film will bring together a batch of leading talents of the industry who have outstanding performance on film making and production to hatch a batch of new-generation talents, create better learning conditions for university students to study on campus and contribute more excellent works to Shanghai. This program will set up a professional jury, thus allowing university students on campus to have exposure to the strict standards of first tier film and television professionals, so that learning is no longer confined to campus. In addition, the outstanding campus talents emerging through this program will also have the opportunity to receive the continued training and support by Talent Television and Film.
This program is a new exploration that combines market, profession and higher education and features the deep interaction of teaching and film and television industry. As such, it will surely help more young film and television talents to embark on the journey to pursue their dream.
