On the morning of 12 July, the 8th Faculty and Staff Congress and the 12th Trade Union Congress of the Shanghai Theater Academy (STA) were held. The official delegates, observer-delegates, retired leaders, retired professors and well-known experts attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Weiling, Vice Chairman and Vice President of STA.

Ji Qihua, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Education Trade Union, officiated the meeting and delivered a speech. On behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Education Trade Union, he expressed the warm congratulation to the meeting and spoke highly about STA’s development over the past few years and gave full recognition of the bridging and connecting role played by the STA Trade Union had played in the last five years. Ji Qihua hoped that the new faculty and staff congress and the new trade union would unite and mobilize all faculty and staff of the entire university in the pursuit of the grand goals to build STA into a domestically leading and internationally first class university of arts.

Huang Changyong, Vice Chairman and President of STA, made a work report to the congress on behalf of the university administration, which provided a review and summary of the administrative work in 2017. In the meantime, he raised the issues and shortcomings existed in the administrative work of the university, and made the deployment of the university’s key administrative work in 2018. Zhang Jiachun, Chief Financial Officer of STA, made a report on STA’s financial accounts for 2017 and financial budget for 2018. Zhang Weiling, Vice Chairman and Vice President of STA, made a work report on behalf of the 11th Committee of STA Trade Union.

After the opening ceremony, the various groups discussed the “Congress Electoral Methods (Draft)”, the name lists of candidates for the 12th STA Trade Union Committee and Auditing Committee, the “STA Administrative Work Report”, the “STA Trade Union Work Report and the revision of the “Statutes of Shanghai Theater Academy”.

In the afternoon, the formal meeting passed the “STA Administrative Work Report”, the “STA Trade Union Work Report” and the proposed amendments of a few articles of the “Statutes of Shanghai Theatre Academy”, and elected the 12th Committee of STA Trade Union and members of the Auditing Committee.

At the meeting, Lou Wei, Chairman of STA, made the concluding speech. On behalf of the CPC Committee of STA, he paid the high respect to the delegates of the faculty and staff congress and committee members of the trade union, and expressed the hope that the newly elected delegates of the faculty and staff congress and committee members of the trade union would work hard and continue to create new prospects for the work of the faculty and staff congress and the work of the trade union. He also put forward opinions on the future work of the faculty and staff congress and trade union.

After the meeting, the first meeting of the 12th STA Trade Union Committee and Auditing Committee was held. Zhang Weiling was elected Chairman of the 12th Trade Union Committee of STA, and Wang Su and Lu Ang were elected Vice Chair Woman and Vice Chairman. Tang Chenglei was elected Director of the Auditing Committee. Zhang Weiling, the newly select Chairman of the STA Trade Union, made a speech on behalf of the new trade union.
