College of Chinese Opera holds May 1st series of themed activities

May this year is destined to be an extraordinary month. In the face of the sudden COVID pandemic, all teachers and students of the College of Chinese Opera have worked together to protect the campus and fight the pandemic for nearly two months. This has included the persistence of all teachers and students, the dedicated efforts of volunteers, the mutual assistance among students and the care from near and far.

On 2 May, the last two students who had been under quarantine outside of the campus returned to the Lianhua Road Campus, realizing the big reunion eventually. Now, the campus in May has begun to regain its past vitality. 2022 is the year of the 20th CPC National Congress and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League of China. On the occasion of the May 1st Labor Day and the May 4th Youth Day, the College of Chinese Opera organized the May 1st  series of themed activities, which ran from 30 April to 4 May.


Once the themed activities were launched, they attracted the attention of many students. The participation of students in each activity was at a very high level. The May 1st series of themed activities of the College of Chinese Opera included nine themed activities, including psychological navigation activity, discussion and sharing session on excellent campus psychological situational plays, book list sharing, online lectures such as "Hamlet and the Tradition of Western Tragedy", online reading session of Chinese and foreign love poetries, special festival session on COVID-fighting diary, online workshop on Chinese flower arrangement and Japanese ikebana  aesthetics, sharing session on secretaries of basic-level youth league organizations on volunteer experience during the pandemic, and sharing session on career planning and development for Chinese opera practitioners. In addition, two meetings for all students of the College of Chinese Opera were also held.

As the concluding events the May 1st series of activities, the College of Chinese Opera held two online exchange meeting between teachers and students according to the grades and levels of programs (i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate) on the afternoon of 4 May. Li Peihong, dean of the College of Chinese Opera, Wang Xuan, secretary of the general party branch, Jin Xiquan, vice dean, Tang Hexiang, vice dean, and Qi Jisong, deputy secretary of the general party branch, as well as directors of various majors, student counselors, head teachers and all students, attended the meetings.


After the two all-student meetings, the May 1st themed activities of the College of Chinese Opera came to a successful conclusion. In the face of COVID, the quarantine does not lock down the loving care. The pandemic will eventually be gone. Together, let's anticipate the end of the pandemic and the day when the sunshine breaks through the clouds.
