On 21 April 2022, the online lecture organized and chaired by Professor Wan Chuanfa of the College of Film of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) was successfully held, with Professor Meng Jun, vice dean of the College of Arts of Wuhan University as the invited speaker. The topic of this lecture was "Social Time, Collective Nostalgia and Narration of Illness: Three Topics of Film and Social Studies". The main audience of the lecture was the students taking the "Film Theory and Criticism" course of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, but it also attracted many external students and scholars, adding up to a total audience of more than 100 people.
The lecture included two main parts: the theoretical origin and theoretical framework of film and social studies. During the interactive discussion of the lecture, many students explored the topics of "Ontology of Film Sociology", "Research Methods of Film Sociology", "Homogenization of Youth Films", "Definition of the Concept of Small Town Youth" and "Characteristics of Science Fiction Films in the Three Orientations of Film Sociology", and had enthusiastic discussions with the two teachers.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Wan Chuanfa encouraged the students to participate in the relevant research of film sociology and make their own contributions to the construction and development of theoretical research of film sociology in China. This online lecture was not only a discussion on the vital relationship between film and society, but also an excellent model to fully display the generation mechanism of film theory, which not only brought great enlightening thinking to the students, but also open up the direction of students' research on new disciplines.
