All party members of the party branch of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences have responded to the call of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee for Education and Health Work and the CPC Committee of Shanghai Theatre Academy, by which they have reported their identity as party members to their local communities, obeyed the arrangement of the staff of the community and the neighborhood committees, and actively participated in the pandemic prevention work in their respective local communities while ensuring the completion of the online teaching tasks. The have stand and worked together with the grass-roots front-line cadres and masses, and made every effort to help resolve the problems and difficulties in the gross-roots pandemic prevention work.
Teacher Che Yi is the chairman of the trade union of the Department. He has signed up for community volunteers at the beginning of the outbreak of the pandemic in Shanghai. Teacher Che Yi's community is one of the first locked down communities in Xuhui District because of cases of close contact with confirmed COVID-19 positive cases. She has participated in many tasks of pandemic prevention in the community, including the distribution of materials for pandemic prevention and supplies for daily living, and the order-keeping in the process of RCR testing for all residents. Due to the sudden closure of the residential compound, the security guards of the compound were unable to change shifts and had insufficient supplies for living. Teacher Che Yi shared her own food and other supplies with the security guards of the compound, so that they could have no worries about the basic daily needs before the supplies provided by the government were delivered.
Shi Yunchao is a physical education teacher of the Department and one of the most enthusiastic teachers for participating in the party members’ voluntary service in the community. Since the announcement of lockdown for the entire Puxi (west of Huangpu River) area, he has been participating in the community volunteers’ work every day, including handling garbage, helping the elderly with mobility difficulties to take the PCR testing, maintaining the order during PCR testing and so on, demonstrating the vanguard and exemplary role of party members with practical actions.
Teacher Wang O’na is the youngest teacher in the Department. She lives on the Changlin Road Campus. She has also proactively signed up for teacher volunteers and participated in the tasks assigned by the university’s Working Group on Pandemic Prevention and Control. University campus is a key area for pandemic prevention and control with high risk, heavy task and great responsibility. In the classroom and on the campus, Teacher Wang O’na explained the national policies on pandemic prevention and control to the students, and encouraged the students to take a serious, positive and optimistic attitude in the face of the current pandemic.
The current Covid-19 pandemic in Shanghai is a test for Shanghai to deal with major disasters. It is also a test of every basic-level party branch and every party member in Shanghai. All Party members of the party branch of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences will take footing on their work and take an active part in the pandemic prevention work of their local communities and of the university. They will fully discharge the duty, dedication and responsibility as a mummer of the Communist Party, and strive tirelessly for the full victory of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
