Facing the current severe and complex pandemic situation, as part of an art university, what should we do and how should we do? In this special period, we will truly record every bit of the actions taken by the teachers, students and staff of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Art is a kind of warmth, art is also a kind of strength, art can bring strength to others, and art can also inspire ourselves. Move forward with art! The pandemic is only temporary, but art will last forever.

When the pandemic comes to strike, how to maintain the physical and mental health of students in such a "cold spring"? In the face of such a realistic problem, the Shanghai Theatre Academy is taking action!

In view of the implementation of quasi-lockdown on campus, the Student Affairs Department of STA has timely formulated a psychological counseling plan, adopted a series of measures to timely share psychological support resources with, and established a team of teachers to provide online consultation at noon.

At the same time, the students from the Peers Psychological Assistance Center have also formed an “Anti-pandemic Psychological Assault Team". The Psychological Counseling Center has actively organized the Mental Health Month themed activities and psychological lectures on artistic expression, and various colleges and departments have also provided a colorful list of weekend activities. All people in STA involved in psychology related work are working together to protect the mental health of students, and make their contribution to Shanghai’s battle against the pandemic.

Provide flexible and convenient psychological counseling resources:

During the pandemic, many activities have turned online, and psychological counseling is no exception. Students can submit request for psychological counseling appointment via the official Wechat account named “Youthful STA” at any time, and then wait for the psychological counseling teacher to respond, and they can also directly call the 24 hour psychological counseling hotline or seek the QQ micro-consultation service. These measures have ensured that students' psychological counseling needs are responded anytime and anywhere, and have enabled students to have tangible access to convenient and efficient psychological counseling services. In addition, the Student Affairs Office has also shared the authoritative psychological assistance resources from multiple channels in the society and high-quality live online psychological courses, so as to provide students with more choices.

Expand the psychological counseling team:

The university has one full-time teacher of psychology and more than 10 licensed psychological counselors. Organized by the Student Affairs Department, a "Listen to Things on Your Mind" team was established, bringing together teachers from the Graduate School, Personnel Office, Inspection and Supervision Office and some of the colleges and departments. The relevant teachers have always stuck to the frontline of mental health to offer one-on-one "online psychological consultation" service to the students at noon every day. Members of this team meet online regularly to support and encourage each other. The "online psychological consultation" in April has been launched. In the face of the special challenges brought by the pandemic, we will walk through the four seasons of our hearts together.

Peer assistance from the Psychological Association:

In order to fight the pandemic and relieve the body and mind, the students of the Psychological Association have also taken active action. They have been conveying positive energy through the official Wechat account of STA’s Youth League Committee and Student Affairs Office.

Artistic expression series of psychological activities and online lectures:

In order to enrich students' life during the anti-pandemic battle, nourish their physical and mental health and improve their mental health level, the Psychological Counseling Center under the Student Affairs Office has planned the Mental Health Month themed activities. The activities include a psychological sitcom script competition, a talk show competition and a series of online lectures on artistic expression brought by experts from within and without STA.

Caring concern from various colleges and departments which thoughtfully protects students’ mental health:

After the quasi-lockdown was implemented on campus, the teachers of all colleges and departments and relevant functional offices have always been paying attention to the psychological needs of students and trying to make students go through this special period with a healthy, optimistic and upward attitude. On weekends and holidays, on the premise of ensuring the requirements of pandemic prevention are fully met, the "menu" featuring mainly online activities of different types adds a touch of bright color to the campus under quasi-lockdown. The concerted efforts have given us more power and confidence in the fight against the pandemic.
