The undergraduate creation of radio and television editing and directing major and film and television photography and production major usually goes through a preparation and production period of nearly one year. Each work embodies the painstaking efforts of the students and their supervising teachers, and also receives the full support of the academic affairs office and other offices of the college as well as alumni and current students of different years. Last year, the undergraduate graduation works of the 2021 graduates won a series of significant awards in succession at domestic and foreign short film festivals and exhibitions. This is the greatest encouragement to the students concerned and their supervising teachers, and also makes all the teachers and students who have helped with these graduation creations very happy. At the beginning of the new semester in 2022, there is good news again.
"Mangzhong Youth Creation Season" is a youth film support initiative jointly sponsored by MGTV’s Damang Support Project and the Communication University of China and jointly launched together with 44 colleges and universities across the country, which provides a stage for young literary and art workers to present themselves. The activity is divided into two tracks, i.e. the Mangzhong Youth Short Film Venture Capital unit and the Mangzhong Graduation Work Support unit, which solicit high-quality short film projects and graduation works from young filmmakers, and provide a financial support of RMB1.5 million in total. “Mangzhong Youth Creation Season 2021" received 104 films recommended by 38 colleges and universities, and collected a total of 447 works from all different channels. These films have shown the new perspectives and new thinking of young film creators. After going through the process of preliminary screening, reexamination and the jury’s review, 60 works were selected.
Among them, there were the following three works from the College of Film of Shanghai Theatre Academy:
-Short plot film "A Housewarming"
-Short plot film "The Sky The Limit"
-Short plot film "Flawless Youngster"
"Iteration Grad Ceremony" is a platform carrying the dream of film and television graduates. By integrating the resources of film and television major graduates from several hundred colleges and universities across the country, it collects, selects and gives awards to the works of film and television major graduates. The "Iteration Grand Ceremony" platform discovers and selects excellent works as well as creation teams with unique creativities, and undertakes in-depth cooperation with the colleges and universities that they are from to jointly incubate and support their feature film creations, thus creating the most authoritative showcase and incubation platform in China for the works of film and television major graduate.
At the first "Iteration Grand Ceremony – Award Ceremony for Works of Film and Television Major Graduates" in 2021, the following works from the STA College of Film won the awards.
-"A Housewarming", winner of the Best Screenwriter Award
-"The Sound of Butterfly", winner of the Best Editing Award
-"Flawless Youngster", winner of the Best Screenwriter Nomination & Qiu Jiajun, winner of the Best Actress Nomination for her role in this film
-"Kind Kids", "Nana", "The Sky The Limit" and "Till We Meet Again", winners of the Shortlisted Works Award
