On 4 March, the Chinese Opera School affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held a special donation ceremony at which a batch of musical instruments for Chinese opera loved by Wang Liping, the late former deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and former chairman of the 9th CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee, were donated to the Chinese Opera School.
Wang Dongyun, the daughter of Comrade Wang Liping, was particularly emotional and choked several times when she donated his father's effects to the Chinese Opera School. She said affectionately that her father was a lover of Chinese opera who learnt and practiced Jinghu for decades and always cared about the inheritance and development of Chinese opera art, and that the donation of Jinghu to the Chinese Opera School was precisely to fulfill his father's wish and express his father's deep attachment to the quintessence of Chinese art.
Li Yiping, deputy secretary of the CPC Group of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee and vice chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee, attended the donation ceremony and delivered a speech. Xie Wei, secretary of the CPC Committee of Shanghai Theatre Academy, presented the donation certificate to the family members and expressed his sincere gratitude. Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Opera School affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy and famous opera performing artist, accepted the donation on behalf of the school. Some of Comrade Wang Liping’s friends, including Zhu Daren, former member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, former deputy secretary of the CPC Group of the 9th CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee and former vice chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee, also attended the donation ceremony.
Representatives of teachers and students of the Chinese Opera School affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy and the College of Chinese Opera of Shanghai Theatre Academy attended the donation ceremony. It is reported that some of the donated musical instruments will be displayed in the school history museum of the Chinese Opera School, and some will be rewarded to the hard working and high achieving students of the Chinese Opera Music major to use.
