Li Minyuan, teacher of Department, of Dramatic Literature, conducts “Theater Theory and Practice” course
From September to November, Associate Professor Li Minyuan of the Department of Dramatic Literature of Shanghai Theater Academy conducted a nine-week “Theater Theory and Practice” course for postgraduate students. Different from the ordinary teaching mode, the course was conducted at the West Bund Museum.
The theme of the course-end showcase of the “Theater Theory and Practice” course was “The Beauty under COVID-19 Pandemic”. The purpose was to let students think about how to still learn to find the existence of "beauty" in the "post COVID-19 pandemic era". The "Theater Theory and Practice" course aimed to stimulate students' diversified imagination and practical ability for theater art, and share their ideas on modern drama or theater art and explore new aesthetic logic in the course of exchange and interaction. The theoretical teaching and practical creation components of the course enabled the students to have a new understanding of drama, and gave full play to the synergy among "West Bund’s art atmosphere", "teacher’s instructions" and "students’ art creation". The practical creation was based on the exhibition “The Voice of Things - Highlights of the Centre Pompidou Collection vol II”, a West Bund Museum x Centre Pompidou project.
On 2 November 2021, a total of 41 students in seven groups completed the course-end showcase with the curating concept "The Beauty under COVID-19 Pandemic - Narration with Things" as the proposition, breaking the frame of drama, extending to the core of the theater and exploring more possibilities outside the classroom. Although the course has ended, we are always on the road, reading, thinking and creating.
