First military training in July in STA’s history

This was the only "July military training" that Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) has ever held. The military training for the Class of 2020 students, who commenced with STA last fall, was postponed to July this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All the Class of 2020 students finished their first year of university life with military training, a different way from the usual. Under the scorching sun and torrential rain, the military training this time encountered more challenges in terms of the weather as compared with the military training in September in previous years, and the gains from the military training were also different from the usual.

On 9 July 9, the closing ceremony of the military training camp for Class of 2020 students of Shanghai Theater Academy was held at Oriental Land. STA leaders Xie Wei, Huang Changyong, Hu Min, Zhang Weiling and Yang Yang, as well as the heads of related functional offices and various colleges and departments, attended the closing ceremony. Li Dongmei, director of the Student Affairs Office, presided over the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony of the military training camp began in the majestic national anthem. Xie Wei, party secretary of Shanghai Theater Academy, first inspected the companies of students attending the military training. During the march-past, 10 parade squares passed the rostrum in turn for being reviewed, showing the spirit of STA students.

The results of the military training were reported in a variety of forms, including boxing, bayonet exercises, special tactics and semaphore demonstration etc. The students of the Dance College presented a piece of dance comprising ballet, international standard ballroom dance and Chinese dance, which they had carefully prepared in their spare time after training, blowing a youthful and artistic air.

Hu Min, deputy party secretary of STA, read out the list of outstanding companies and instructors. Yang Yang, vice president of STA, read out the list of outstanding students. In order to thank Shanghai Teenagers Extra-Curricular Activities Campsite - Oriental Land for the excellent organization and arrangement of the military training, Huang Changyong, deputy party secretary and president of STA, presented a banner to Shanghai Teenagers Extra-Curricular Activities Campsite - Oriental Land on behalf of STA. Daixijiri, a Class of 2020 student majoring in lighting design in the Department of Stage Design, spoke as the representative of outstanding students.

Pan Jizhen, deputy director of Oriental Land, gave his best wishes and put forward his expectations to the students who participated in the training. On behalf of the party and administrative leaders of STA, Zhang Weiling, deputy party secretary and vice president, expressed thanks and greetings to all the officers and soldiers delivering the training and all the teachers working at the frontline of the military training, and fully recognized the good spirit and style demonstrated by the students in the military training.

The military training in July 2021 was held in the warm atmosphere of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. To this end, Oriental Land held the "Source of Red -- The Inaugural Exhibition of Marx and Engels Classics and Core Party Building Documents in Shanghai", exhibiting more than 2,700 versions of the "Communist Manifesto", thus making this military training more red in the olive green.
