Li Zhijuan, a postgraduate student of our university, wins the first prize in the 23rd National New Concept Composition Contest

Among the recently announced winners of the “Changjiang Literature and Art Cup“ 23rd National New Concept Composition Contest, Li Zhijuan, a student of MA History and Theory of Chinese Drama 2019 of university, won the first prize of Group C.


The New Concept Composition Contest is a national composition competition jointly sponsored by 14 famous universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University and Fudan University and the Mengya magazine. It is the most influential composition contest in China. The concept of the contest is "new thinking, new expression and real experience". Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s New Concept Composition Contest was held online at 6 p.m. on 30 January 2021. The topics for the second round contest were "The Microcosmic World" and "An Uncertain Evening". The contestants might choose one of the two topics according to the prompts for instant creation with no limit to the styles. In the three hours of on-the-spot writing, Li Zhijuan chose the second topic.


This was not the first time for Li Zhijuan to participate in the New Concept Composition Contest. She had previously participated in the 15th New Concept Composition Contest in 2013 and the 15th New Concept Composition Contest in 2015, and won the second prize and the first prize respectively. As for her performance in this year’s New Concept Composition Contest, Li Zhijuan believed that in addition to her own reading accumulation, her six-year study majoring in Theatrical, Film and Television Literature at the Shanghai Theatre Academy since her undergraduate course had also provided great help for her literary creation. After the systematic study in the Department of Theatrical Literature, Li Zhijuan felt that she had acquired a preliminary understanding of the art histories of China and foreign countries, as well as a certain understanding of the different styles, schools and characteristics of art works. The study of theatre greatly broadened her artistic vision and made her bathed in the brilliance of art.
