Our University Successfully Holds "Academic Seminar in Commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Xiong Foxi" in Fengcheng of Jiangxi Province

4 December 2020 was the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mr Xiong Foxi, one of the pioneers and founders of Chinese drama. Mr Xiong was the first president of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of STA. In order to commemorate this internationally and domestically famous drama activist, drama educator and playwright, and to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of STA, our university and the Fengcheng Municipal People's Government of Jiangxi Province jointly held the “Academic Seminar in Commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Xiong Foxi” in Fengcheng of Jiangxi Province, the hometown of Mr Xiong. More than 60 experts from Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Communication University of China, Central Academy of Drama, China Academy of Arts, Southwest University, Hunan Normal University, Hubei University, Yangzhou University, Hangzhou Normal University, Shenzhen University, Sichuan Normal University, Shandong University of Arts and Shanghai Drama Art Center were invited to attend the seminar.


The opening ceremony was presided over by Wu Aili, Director of the Discipline Development Office, STA. Chen Xiaojian, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Fengcheng Municipal Committee, and Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, delivered speeches...


The keynote speech session of the seminar was presided over by Professor Chen Jun, Dean of the Dramatic Literature Department, STA. Seven experts, including Professor Huang Aihua of Hangzhou Normal University, Professor Sun Huizhu of Shanghai Theatre Academy, Professor Liu Chuan’e of Hubei University, Professor Zhou Anhua of Nanjing University, Professor Hu Wei of Central Academy of Drama, Associate Professor Liao Taiyan of Party School of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, and Yu Rongjun, Artistic Director of Shanghai Drama Art Center, made wonderful speeches.


The academic seminar was divided into two parallel panels which met in different venues at the same time. Warm discussions were carried out on Xiong Foxi’s drama theory, drama creation and performance, drama education, and drama experiment among farmers in Dingxian County, as well as his life, status and achievements.


At the end of the seminar, Professor Hu Zhiyi summarized the studies and discussions held during this seminar. The successful holding of this seminar was highly praised by the participating experts.
