This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, which coincides with the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mr Xiong Foxi, the late former president of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. In memory of this domestically and internationally famous drama activist, drama educator and playwright, the Chinese Drama Research Center of Shanghai Theatre Academy has specially compiled the book “Collection of Research Materials on Xiong Foxi”, which was officially published by the East China Normal University Press a few days ago.
From more than 90 articles about Xiong Foxi research since 1934, 33 articles are selected for compilation, which are divided into four parts: the first part is “Research on Drama Theory and Creation”; the second part is “Research on Drama Education; the third part is Research on Popular Drama Experiment in Ding County”; the fourth part is “Research on Life, Status and Achievement”, with Xiong Foxi's life photos in different periods. The publication of the book, which is beautifully designed and artistically bound with a good appearance, will increase the attention of the academic circle to and promote the deepening of the research on Xiong Foxi.
It is worth mentioning that the Shanghai Theatre Academy published the book “Xiong Foxi, A Modern Dramatist” (Xiong Foxi Research Group, China Drama Press, 1985) in 1985, and then published “Collection of Xiong Foxi’s Works (Part I and Party II) (Editorial Committee of “Collection of Xiong Foxi’s Works”, Shanghai Literature and Art Press, 2000) in 2000, and the “Collection of Research Materials on Xiong Foxi” is the inheritance and deepening on the basis of the previous publications, and is also the most academically meaningful commemoration.
