Recently, the activities of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) have taken place in succession. The Stage Design Department has today launched its heavyweight activities featuring "Conference + Exhibition", which emphasize on both theory and practice.
Conference – 2020 World Education Conference on Stage Design
The conference, jointly sponsored by the China Institute of Stage Design and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, is composed of three parts: "Method and Exploration – World Conference on Stage Design", "Internationalization and Nationalism - The 7th Experts Forum on International Stage Design" and "Reading Space Aesthetics – Forum on Hu Miaosheng’s Stage Design Theory". At the same time, the conference will also hold an "International Exhibition on Teaching Achievements of Stage Design Schools".
The opening ceremony of the 2020 World Education Conference on Stage Design & "RediscoverySymbiosis” Exhibitions was held in the foyer of the STA Experimental Theatre on 25 November. Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Cao Lin, President of the China Institute of Stage Design and professor of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Sha Xiaolan, Vice President of the China Institute of Stage Design and Chairman of Beijing Funshine Culture Media Co Ltd, and Li Yimei, Vice Dean of the Drama College of Sichuan Conservatory of Music, delivered speeches respectively. Yang Yang, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference.
The opening ceremony was attended by well-known Chinese stage design experts from the China Institute of Stage Design, the National Theatre of China, the Chinese National Academy of Arts, the Central Academy of Drama, the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, the Tianjin Opera and Dance Drama Theatre and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, as well as principals and subject leaders of stage design schools from all over the country.
2020 World Education Conference on Stage Design has been held in the special period of global COVID-19 pandemic, and has adopted the offline and online combined mode to discuss the development direction of world education on stage design, aiming to promote the innovation of professional talent training mode with the concept and method of "greater stage design", so as to drive the emergence of a new setup in stage design education that adapts to the development and transformation of the times.

1. Art and Painting Works Exhibition of Shanghai Theatre Academy
The exhibitors of this exhibition include three generations of old, middle-aged and young teachers in service. These excellent teachers form a special teaching group, and all of them have their own unique academic creation after teaching, and this exhibition is a very meaningful collection of their creative works.
2. Performance Model Exhibition of Shanghai Theatre Academy
This exhibition includes excellent works of teachers, design works of excellent graduates and influential performance design works. Through systematic arrangements, the exhibition shows the historical evolution, technological innovation and spatial innovation of stage creation, so as to evoke the observation and reflection from history to education and practice.
3. Event Posters and Drama-Themed Cultural and Creative Works Exhibition of Shanghai Theatre Academy
As an important research field of design discipline, the promotional function of poster design covers a variety of areas. Drama poster is a common carrier of promotion for drama performance, and also a unique feature of the Visual Communication Design major of the Shanghai Theatre Academy as oppose to the teaching of the same major in other universities. Under the background of "Internet plus", the concept of posters is becoming more and more extensive.
