On the afternoon of 22 October, the press conference of the large-scale original drama "Outpost" dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in the Experimental Theater of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Leaders from STA, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Veterans Affairs and Shanghai Support Army and Care for Military Families Foundation attended the press conference together with part of the main creative team. At the press conference, the main creative team introduced the creation process, innovative ideas and project progress of the play. The partnering organizations of the project formally signed the cooperation agreement, and the press conference was followed by a Q&A session with the media. The press conference announced that the first round of three consecutive performances of "Outpost" will be staged at the STA Experimental Theatre starting from February 2021, dedicating to the centennial anniversary of the foundation of PRC and paying tribute to a group of young people who dedicated their lives to the cause of the Communist Party, i.e. the "five martyrs of the League of Left-Wing Writers" who were killed in Longhua on 7 February 1931.
As a major literary and artistic creation project of the Shanghai Theatre Academy to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the production of “Outpost” is led and organized by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, which also plays the main role in the creation, rehearsal and performance of the play, and is supported by the Shanghai Longhua Martyrs Cemetery, Shanghai Support Army and Care for Military Families Foundation and other partnering organizations.
The main creative team of this play is composed of a galaxy of creative elites with the leading teachers and outstanding alumni of STA as the main force. Professor Huang Changyong, President of STA, is the playwright, Ma Junfeng is the director, Xu Zhong is the music director, Wang Luoyong plays the role of Lu Xun, Hai Yitian plays the role of Yin Fu, Zheng Dasheng is the visual director and is responsible for the film shooting, and Zhan Xin is responsible for the sound effect design. In addition to the collective strengthen of STA in the creative aspects, the solicitation of opinions at the time of finalizing the script received the guidance and support of various parties concerned about the development of STA. With all these plus the upcoming rehearsal and the formal performance in the STA Experimental Theatre in the coming year, the birth of “Outpost” is full of STA blood in all aspects.
Xie Wei, Secretary of STA, said that as a production to pay tribute, the creation process of "Outpost" embodies STA’s persistent principles that creation serves the teaching of the school, the growth and development of teachers, students and alumni, and Shanghai's construction of an international cultural metropolis.
On 7 February 2021, on the centennial anniversary of the founding of CPC, "Outpost" will see you at the STA Experimental Theatre, and join you to pay tribute to the centennial anniversary and look back on the outpost.
