The College of Creative Studies is established in 2004, the first of such kind in China, with the goal to respond to the development of cultural and creative industries.

There are majors of Arts Management, Digital Media Art, Visual Expression Design, with 1 doctorate program on Arts Management Research, 1 level – 1 MA program on Design Studies, as well as MA and MFA programs on Arts Management and Digital Art Design in the College of Creative Studies.

In recent years the College of Creative Studies has hosted several large high- level international events, such as the UN Global Creative Economy Symposium, Global Creative Education Forum, World Cities Cultural Forum Shanghai Symposium, and International Workshop on New Media Performance Innovation. The Shanghai Key Laboratory on Virtual Simulation for Multimedia Performance, Metropolitan Cultural Audit Center and John Howkins Research Center on the Creative Economy are all subordinated to the college of Creative Studies, and have greatly improved the capacity of the college on academic research, innovative practice and talent cultivation. 

Currently, the College of Creative Studies is speeding up the internationalization process by enhancing the cooperation with foreign universities, implementing diversified models of joint education and building a platform of international exchange and practice for the studies.
