司徒嘉怡(Chiayi Seetoo)
Chiayi Seetoo is a Professor at Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). She holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from UC Berkeley and served on the boards of Performance Studies international (PSi) and Dance Studies Association (DSA, formerly Society of Dance History Scholars). As a performance artist and scholar, her interests include performance studies, dance studies, contemporary cross-disciplinary performance, documentary theatre, improvisation, intermedial performance, and Asian and Sinophone cultural studies. She has published academic research and performance introduction and reviews in English and Chinese, in TDR: The Drama Review, Theatre Journal, Asian Theatre Journal, Routledge Companion to Butoh Performance, P[art]icipatory Urbanisms, PAR: Performing Arts Review, LEAP, etc. She recently joined the editorial team of the STA consortium issue of TDR: The Drama Review. In 2020-2022, she won teaching excellence awards on national and municipal levels for her contribution in Intercultural Communication Studies (ICS) program. She curated and produced Stories in the Flow, featuring 6 creative works by alumni and graduate students of ICS as part of “An Ecosystem of Alliance” of the 13th Shanghai Biennale, presented at Power Station of the Arts museum. She edited Intercultural Performance (2023), an anthology of select MA Theses from ICS program translated from English to Chinese to facilitate intercultural dialogues in scholarship and education. Academic works aside, she also performs, directs, and organizes workshops and community events that connect theory and practice, commissioned and supported by Shanghai International Dance Center, China Shanghai International Arts Festival, as well as numerous contemporary art curatorship associated with Rockbund Art Museum, Yuz Museum, Ming Contemporary Art Museum, etc. She has been invited to serve as an international moderator for Women in Motion festival, a collaborative project between Centre Pompidou of France and West Bund Art Museum in Shanghai. She also serves on the Jury Committee for Emerging Theatre Artists Competition in Wuzhen Theatre Festival.
