1 +4: STA and Minhang District continue to write a new chapter of cooperation

On 26 April, the signing ceremony of the agreement for a new round of cooperation between Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and Minhang District People's government was held. Leaders of STA including Xie Wei, Party Secretary, Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President, Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President, and Tang Litu, Vice President, and leaders of Minhang District including Ni Yaoming, Party Secretary, Chen Yujian, Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor, Yang Demei, Vice Mayor, attended the signing ceremony on behalf of both sides and witnessed the start of a new round of cooperation.

At the signing ceremony, Xie Wei, on behalf of the Party committee of STA, first expressed sincere thanks to the Party committee and government of Minhang District for their long-term strong support for STA. He said that in the first decade of the 21st century, STA established close cooperation with Minhang District through the operation of STA’s Lianhua Road Campus; in the second decade of the 21st century, STA built a new campus in Changlin Road, thus further deepening the cooperation with Minhang District. Now that time has entered the third decade of the 21st century, the two sides will jointly plan for new development during the 14th Five Year Plan period through the signing of the agreement for a new round of cooperation. Both the Chinese Opera Art Center on STA’s Lianhua Road Campus and the New Media Center on STA’s Changlin Road Campus are needed for the cultural development strategy of Shanghai. In accordance with the requirements of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government, STA will take the initiative to integrate into the overall development of the region, improve its service capacity as a higher education institution, and contribute to the development of education, culture and cultural and creative industries in Minhang District.

Ni Yaoming introduced the economic, social and cultural development of Minhang District at the signing ceremony, especially how Minhang District has focused on the work of epidemic prevention, return to work and resumption of production at the same time after the epidemic prevention and control has come into a normal and constant state. He said that in this special period, the signing of the cooperation agreement between Minhang District and STA is of greater significance and will add new impetus to the promotion of cultural and educational development in the region. He believed that both sides will work together to implement the spirit of the agreement and create a broader scope for the district-university cooperation.

Huang Changyong introduced the main contents of the new round of cooperation. The cooperation between STA and Minhang District began in 2005 and signed the agreement for the first round of cooperation in 2012. This new round of strategic cooperation will further adhere to the concept of complementary advantages, win-win results, common development, continue to deepen cooperation in culture, education, tourism, cultural and creative industries, and build the 1+4 cooperation system. 1 refers to the establishment of a long-term and stable district-university cooperation mechanism to guide and coordinate the facilitation and implementation of the district-university cooperation. 4 refers to the construction of four projects, including two centers, one park and one school. Among them, two centers are the two STA campuses located in Minhang District, one park is Pujiang Country Park adjacent to STA’s Changlin Road Campus, and one school is the basic education with artistic characteristics which has Minhang School affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy as the main carrier.

Chen Yujian presided over the signing ceremony, and said that both sides would work together to  strengthen the cooperation mechanism through the new round of district-university cooperation, enrich the connotation of cooperation, improve the level of cooperation, and make new contributions to developing Shanghai's cultural brand and building Shanghai into an international cultural metropolis.

From 2005 to 2020, the cooperation between STA and Minhang District has continued to rise to a new level, with a broader prospect for further development.
