On 8 December, the 2nd General Meeting and 2019 Annual Academic Conference of Shanghai Film, Television and Theatre Theories Research Association were held in the New Experimental Space Theatre of Shanghai Theatre Academy. Nearly 100 experts and scholars for film, television and theatre from universities and research institutions in Shanghai including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Shanghai Theatre Academy etc got together to participate in the event. Hu Chenhuan, the officer-in-charge from the Association Management Department of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, also attended the meeting.
The first half of the meeting was presided over by Professor Jin Danyuan of Shanghai University. The relevant directors of the first board of directors made the work report, financial management report of the board of directors as well as the board of directors’ report on the amendment of the articles of association, which were reviewed and approved by all members of the association. The election of the 2nd board of directors was held during the general meeting, which elected new directors of the board. Li Zhenlin, Chen Jun, Wu Baohe, Xiao Ying and Zhang Xiao’ou of Shanghai Theatre Academy were elected as directors. In the subsequent meeting of the 2nd board of directors, the leadership team of the new board of directors was elected. Professor Li Zhenlin of Shanghai Theatre Academy was elected chairman of the board of directors, and Associate Professor Zhang Xiao’ou of Shanghai Theatre Academy was elected secretary-general of the board of directors
The second half of the conference was presided over by Professor Nie Xinru of East China Normal University. Three excellent academic reports showed the research strength and commentary strength of members of the association. Professor Huang Wangli of Shanghai University introduced the establishment of the Chinese-English bilingual academic journal “Research of Film Theories”. Professor Feng Guo of East China Normal University made an academic presentation entitled Review of Chinese Film Directors' Exposition and Creation in 2019.
Since its establishment in 2014, Shanghai Film, Television and Theatre Theories Research Association has held a variety of academic activities with the support of the leadership and all members of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations. It not only has had a great influence in the academic community, but also has cultivated a galaxy of young scholars who are willing to engage in the research of theatre, film and television, and has helped and promoted the growth of young scholars in the academic and critical circles. The “Research Report on the Development of Chinese Films, TV Plays and Dramas” edited and published annually by the association won the Brand Award of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations in 2018, which was a full recognition of the association’s hard-earned achievements in academic review and research. In the future, Shanghai Film, Television and Theatre Theories Research Association will take Shanghai Theatre Academy as the main position of academic activities, bring together teachers and students of 17 Shanghai-based colleges and universities with theatre, film and television majors, and actively publish reviews and discussion with social influence on the creation, production, theoretical criticism and industrial development of Chinese films, TV plays and dramas, so as to have more profound academic influence and greater social significance, and to contribute the indispensable Shanghai force to the construction of Chinese theatre, film and television disciplines.
