On the 20th, the “Young Talents Program/R.A.W. (Rising Artists’ Works)” of the 21st China Shanghai International Arts Festival sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) officially kicked off at the STA Huashan Road Campus
As the most dynamic original art section of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, this year's Young Talents Program/R.A.W.” is the eighth year since its inception. Over the past eight years, 65 original commissioned works have been created and launched in the festival. This year, the “Young Talents Program” is for one week from the 20th to the 26th of October. There were 111 submissions received from young Chinese artists around the world for the selection of commissioned works, from which six commissioned works were chosen through the selection process, covering drama, music, dance, multimedia, shadow puppet, etc. They are: new media performance “Avatar·Mythology”, drama “A Game of Two Cities”, music and new-media “Vibration of the Heavenslace in Leningrad”, dance theatre “Yi”, allegorical drama “Catch Shadows”, and contemporary dance “Clouded”. As far as the theme is concerned, the six works continue with the focus of previous years, i.e. both the care and development of traditional culture and the Chinese narration of overseas texts. At the same time, they also demonstrate young people’s own thoughts in the face of current life. R.A.W. builds a stage for young artists, cheering for them and allowing more young artists to be seen here.
Since its launch at the arts festival in 2012, the Young Talents Program has provided nurturing services for rising artists and new works. It has opened up connection with many parts of the arts festival such as the fair, forum and training program, etc. at the same time, thus enabling rising artists and new works with great potential to achieve sustainable development. It has seen many of them having already successfully entered the world-class art festivals and theaters, and supplied an important force and new works with great potential for making the Shanghai culture brand famous and creating the source of culture.
