On the morning of 20 October 2019, the opening ceremony of the R.A.W (Rising Artists’ Works) of Dance of the 21st China Shanghai International Arts Festival and the celebrations for the 20thanniversary of the establishment of the College of Dance of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) was held at the International Dance Center. The leaders and experts attending the opening ceremony were from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, College of Dance of Nanjing Arts University, Shanghai Dancers Association, Dance Research Institute of Chinese National Academy of Arts, Dance Center of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Shanghai International Dance Center Development Foundation, and Dance School affiliated to STA. All members of the leading group and some teachers and staff of the STA College of Dance also attended the event.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of STA, on behalf of the Party and administrative leaderships of STA, expressed thanks for the presence of experts and senior dancers, and sincere congratulations on the STA College of Dance’s 20th anniversary. Chen Jianian, Dean of the STA College of Dance, said that it was a good opportunity to sum up and review the journey of the STA College of Dance in the past 20 years through the R.A.W. of Dance activities.
The opening ceremony kicked off the R.A.W of Dance activities and the STA College of Dance’s 20th anniversary celebrations. After the opening ceremony, the “Keep Pace with the Times: Dance of Shanghai Style” academic seminar was held at the International Dance Centre, during which 16 experts from Beijing and Shanghai discussed the dance of Shanghai style from three major aspects, i.e. the positioning, the historical and cultural context, and the pursuit and characteristics.
In addition, as one of the activities of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the STA College of Dance, a special dance performance was held on the lawn of the STA Huashan Road Campus on the same evening. Students of the STA College of Dance majoring in Chinese dance and international ballroom dance of Dance presented 10 wonderful dances.
The 20th anniversary celebrations of the STA College of Dance are very colorful. Among them, the reporting performance of the R.A.W of Dance workshop will be held on 26 October, the student dance showcase will be staged on 24 November, and the 20th anniversary celebration gala will be held on 19 December.
