The National Day in 2019 was an extraordinary historical moment. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the whole nation was immersed in jubilation and heroism, and the whole nation is full of patriotism. In the major cultural events in celebration of the National Day, Xu Zheng, Hu Ge, Ma Yili, Cai Guoqiang, Sha Xiaolan and many other alumni of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) paid homage to the motherland in different ways and presented their works of performing arts as the gifts to the 70th birthday of New China.

Nowadays, the popular National Day movies My Motherland and I, The Climbers and Chinese Captain have set off an upsurge of Chinese film viewing all over the world. Many famous alumni of STA, such as Xu Zheng, Hu Ge, Ma Yili, Du Jiang, Song Jia, Lei Jiayin, Han Dongjun, Guo Jingfei, Luo Haiqiong, who are directors, stars and actors in these films, and Cai Guoqiang, the stage design artist who was the general director of the live fireworks show at the National Day Gala, and Sha Xiaolan, who was the general director of lighting at the National Day Gala, silently interpreted the artistic ideal and the feelings of home and country with their own actions. At the same time, the teachers and students at STA have also elaborately created a number of excellent masterpieces, such as the large-scale original drama Military Anthem, symphony dance poem Yellow River, Peking Opera Mu Guiying Takes Command and large-scale recitation drama Huang Yanpei, which were staged during the National Day period. The STAers on and off the school campus paid tribute to the 70th birthday of the new China in different ways, and painted a thick and heavy touch of “Chinese red” at the cultural performance venues in Shanghai and even the whole country during the National Day period.
