Shanghai Theatre Academy eulogizes the times and pays tribute to the 70th birthday of the People’s Republic of China with high quality works

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), taking advantages of its own characteristics as an art university, has elaborately created four masterpieces, namely, large-scale original drama "Military Anthem", symphony dance poem "Yellow River", Peking Opera "Mu Guiying Takes Command" and large-scale recitation drama "Huang Yanpei", which will be staged during the National Day period with an intensive schedule to greet the 70th birthday of the People's Republic of China and to render a touch of Chinese red to the cultural performance venues in Shanghai during the National Day period, eulogizing the times with deep feelings and paying tribute to the motherland with high quality works.

The drama "Military Anthem" was stage at the STA Experimental Theatre from 25 to 30 September.

The Peking Opera "Mu Guiying Takes Command" will be staged at the Shanghai Grand Theatre on 3 October.

The symphony dance poem “Yellow River” will be staged at the Grand Theatre of the International Dance Center Theater from 1 to 4 October.

The large-scale recitation drama “Huang Yanpei” will be stagedat the STA Experimental Theatre from 17 to 18 October.

In recent years, STA has created and performed more than 300 works, including more than 40 key projects, such as drama "Children of the Country", "Four Ministers of the Ming Dynasty", "Raging Wind" and "Military Anthem", dance "Four Seasons", "Red" and "Yellow River", drama "Little Waves of Stagnant Water", "Xu Guangqi and Matteo Ricci" and "Miss Julie", musical "Modern Millie" and "Red Men and Green Women" etc, winning high recognition and positive comments from all walks of life.

STA actively serves “The Belt and Road” initiative and the "Going out" strategy for Chinese culture, making positive contributions to promoting cross-cultural communication. It has established intercollegiate exchange and cooperation relations with more than 60 foreign drama schools, international institutions and groups in more than 30 countries and regions. STA has successfully held the Shanghai international Small Theatre Festival for nine years and Winter Institute for seven years, as well as high-end international forums such as the Performance Studies Seminar, the International Master Class on Directing, the International Seminar on Actors Training and Education, and the World City Cultural Forum (Shanghai) on many occasions. In 2015, STA successfully drove the move of the head office of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), an NGO partner of UNESCO, to Shanghai, and jointly established the STA International College with ITI and jointly hold a series of major global cultural and artistic activities, such as the International Theatre Festival, the International Dance Day and the World Theatre Alliance Conference etc, to actively serve the major initiatives and strategies of the country and Shanghai.
